With the news that Facebook will be adding location-based features next month, it made us think about our own business model a bit. While the Kasasa movement has just begun and has goals to be available at banks nationwide in the near future, it’s our partner institutions’ role in small communities that makes the movement what it is. Our efforts to help community banks and credit unions compete with the megabanks for your banking business and make sure you are first in banking is only made possible by offering a more localized feel. It’s the “too big to fail” attitude and brand experience that got the big banks in trouble in the first place, so when we offer Kasasa at a local level by partnering with a qualified community bank or credit union, it’s because we care about what’s going on with you and within your city and neighborhood.
Facebook updates now let us know what our friends are up to (if they want us to know), but with the addition of location, we’ll be able to know what they’re doing and where they’re doing it – bringing the context of community and place to the forefront. It IS important where you are in the world.
So what does all this have to do with banking products and our Kasasa checking and savings accounts? It’s exactly all of these details that make you who you are. And we want to know where you are, who you’re with, and what you’re doing so we can connect with you at optimal levels.
We say kudos to Facebook for being so forward-thinking and for allowing us to connect more with all of the local Kasasa communities. We look forward to a future of innovation online, offline, and in your community. Kasasa now for a continued future in location-based (and we mean local) community banking.
