It’s the home of West Chester University, and proximate to great historical sites such as Valley Forge. It was a center for clockmaking during the 1700s, and later for some of the earliest computers. The distinct borough we’re talking about is West Chester, about an hour west of Philadelphia.
A place this singular is sure to offer some rewarding things to do. We asked our friends at Benchmark Federal Credit Union to recommend a few of their favorites.
And if you’re looking for something rewarding to do this Thursday, October 15th, join Benchmark in celebrating International Credit Union Day at their West Chester branch. The Kasasa Rewards Rush will be there with plenty of awesome rewards for the taking!
1. Find The Nearest Philly Cheesesteak.
When we asked our friends at Benchmark what’s good to eat in West Chester, they had one answer: Philly cheesesteak. You can get a good one at any number of places around town — including Pepper Mill, the Irish pub Kildare’s, and the Iron Hill brewery (they also offer Philly cheesesteak egg rolls!). Enjoy this ingenious culinary creation for your next meal in West Chester.
2. Make Your Way Downtown.
Before or after your Philly cheesesteak, head to Downtown West Chester — the vibrant heart of the borough that has plenty of art, music and cultural events to enjoy. Replicas of works from the Philadelphia Museum of Art are currently on display at various locations throughout November. You can also take the family down to catch the Halloween Parade later this month. The Downtown West Chester Facebook page is a great way to keep up with what’s going on.
3. Run, Walk Or Bike Through History At Valley Forge.
West Chester is also within reach to many historical attractions — including Valley Forge National Historical Park, the site where the Continental Army gathered during the Revolutionary War in the winter of 1777-78. The park commemorates those who sacrificed during the war, and hosts events throughout the year to bring history to life. It’s also an excellent site for recreation, with over 20 miles of trails for hiking, biking and running.
4. Go Ice Skating Or Watch A Local Hockey Game.
