Love is priceless, but expressing it... that can cost you a pretty penny, especially on Valentine’s Day. Digging yourself into debt to buy your significant other flowers, jewelry, sports tickets or some other pricey gift doesn’t do either of you any good in the long run. Good news: You don’t have to spend a fortune to demonstrate how much you value your partner. Simply craft your love.
Give a gift that’s memorable, special, and wallet-friendly!
1. An environmentally-friendly way to immortalize your love
Couples have been immortalizing their romance by carving their initials on trees for hundreds of years. This isn’t great for the tree, plus it’s not like your Valentine can take the tree home with her. Instead, try this cool craft from Three Scoops of Love. Grab a piece of firewood and create your own timeless carving for Valentine’s Day.
2. Love the whole neighborhood will see
Anyone can buy a Valentine’s Day card, and with a little skill and construction paper, almost anyone can make one. But a gesture of love the whole neighborhood can see is special — and super easy. Simply use heart stencils to cut the shape into large pieces of paper, then arrange the hearts artfully on the front lawn and dust with flour. The “card” will be a pretty display that’s also eco-friendly!Craft your love. 6 memorable, special, and wallet-friendly Valentine's Day gifts. Click To Tweet
3. Spell it out
Craft your love out of wood. Whip out your jigsaw (or borrow Dad’s) and cut out letters that spell out “love,” “Valentine” or your loved one's name. Decorate however you like — with paint, contact paper, gemstones, etc. — and use hot glue to paste the letters together to spell out your affection.
4. Toast your love
If your partner enjoys wine, why not give him or her hand-etched wine glasses that you made yourself? All you need is a set of simple wineglasses, etching cream, some basic supplies and these directions from HGTV. Cheers!
5. The way to anyone’s heart
Chocolate is a classic romantic gift. Rather than buy pricey store-bought sweets, you can make your own chocolates, fudge, or cupcakes ... and march right on into his (or her) heart!
6. Picture this
Hit the dollar store and buy a bunch of picture frames in varying sizes. Use hot glue to connect them into an artful design. Then, print out pictures of special moments throughout your relationship and fill the frames in chronological order to tell the visual story of your romance.Love is priceless, but these DIY Valentine's Day gifts are heartfelt AND wallet-friendly.
